The New System for Fare Data Collection, Passenger Information and Fleet Management / Tracking (AKYOLBIL)
Yolbil is a web-based system for fleet tracking/guidance and passenger information.
With the Satellite-Global Positioning System (GPS) and GPRS (GSM radiomodem) technology, the positions of the bus fleets can be monitored instantly as well as also time-shifted. The system informs the driver about the alternative routes, the weather and the traffic. The schedules which were prepared the day before are transmitted to the buses via a wireless network (Wi-Fi)-internet (GPRS) and the driver is notified of any change during the day.
Bus arrivals are determined and displayed on LCD screens at the bus stops. For the disabled, voice assistance is also available.
The bus arrivals can also be obtained via SMS or the internet. And on buses, the passengers are informed about the next station through announcements and LCD screens. While waiting at the bus-stops, the passengers will hear announcements about the route of the next bus.
The data collected from the cards (i.e. AKBİL, beşiBiryerde, istanbulkart) are processed at the data pool at the central office. This data are then used to obtain patterns in the transactions for schedule optimization and financial calculations. The system installed on the bus will inform the central office of how the driver is driving (e.g. if he is exceeding the speed limit, sudden braking, etc.). And in cases of emergencies (such as an accident, engine failure, violation of public security, etc.) the concerned authorities are informed either automatically or directly by the driver.
